Queen’s Park, founded in 1874, originally Kimberley Public Gardens but was renamed to Queen’s Park to mark the coronation of Elizabeth II The park contains many fine trees, shrubberies and fountains, a fine old face-brick Tennis Club pavilion. The park was created in 1874 as the Kimberley Public Gardens and soon became a popular venue. Activities included weekend concerts by the Philharmonic Society’s Brass band in the bandstand (now dismantled), cricket matches, and swimming in the pool.
